Over the weekend the annual Birds of Prey World Cup men’s alpine ski races took place at Beaver Creek, the site for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. This weekend’s races helped set the bar for what is sure to be a monumental event in February, when the world’s top men and women racers will compete at an event only second to the Olympics.
Both the World Cup and the World Championship events are made possible by the Vail Valley Foundation (VVF); their efforts help make the Beaver Creek venue a spectacle for sporting events worldwide. VVF chose Condit to help create the race finish area a spectacle in and of itself. Condit was responsible for the design and building of a massive VIP event structure, as well as television studios atop the grandstand.
This weekend the larger, hospitality structure’s top floor and outside deck were used as a VIP area. Dining and Korbel-sponsored beverage stations were scattered throughout the outdoor and indoor spaces. The location of the structure is ideal as it sits facing the Red Tail knoll, the spot where racers catch their last, teeth-clenching air before their final turn into the finish arena. Spectators also have an ideal view of the megatron, showing the entirety of the infamous Birds Of Prey racetrack. The space, both indoors and outside on the sun-flooded deck, feels spacious and grand.
Condit will work with VVF in the coming months to outfit the two floors of the structure with a custom interior. Although not in use for the World Cup, Condit will also finish the interior build-out for the television studios in time for the February championships.
